| Today is deadline to enter pageant |

It is time for the annual Miss Snakecharmer Pageant and entries are being accepted. The deadline to register for the pageant will be Sunday, Feb. 18, for the Thursday, March 8, pageant. The pageant is open to girls between the ages of 16 and 19 living within a 75-mile radius of Sweetwater. The pageant will be held at 7 p.m. March 8 at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. A total of $2,500 will be awarded to the winners in the form of scholarships. The winner will receive $1,250, while the first runner-up will receive $600 and the second runner-up will receive $400. The talent competition winner will receive $250. Applications are available at local high school offices or can be obtained by calling pageant chairman Angela Gentry at 236-5161 or Carolyn Mullican at 235-4943 after 5 p.m. Pageant events will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, with the Pageant Tea at Texas State Technical College West Texas Sweetwater’s The Center. Contestants should bring their entry fee to the tea if they have not already paid it. Contestants will join area media for the annual Rattlesnake Round-Up Media Day on Friday, Feb. 23. On Sunday, Feb. 25, and Monday, Feb. 26, talent rehearsals will be held at the auditorium. Beginning on March 4, contestants will be able to practice throughout the week at the auditorium. On Sunday, March 4, beginning at 2 p.m., open casual and evening gown rehearsals will be held. On Monday, March 5, and Tuesday, March 6, walk through rehearsals will be held beginning at 6 p.m. A full dress rehearsal will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 7. The day of the competition, contestants will have interviews by judges at 1 p.m. and will also ride in the parade at 3:30 p.m. | |
